A few weeks ago, Leo Budicin joined the CIMAC team.

Can you tell us a few words about your role and your work?
I coordinate CIMAC’s activities at the IMO, an international environment that offers a different perspective on the world. I represent CIMAC at IMO meetings in London, working alongside our experts to ensure we contribute to the work of IMO committees through submissions and active participation. I also manage the input from our members and working groups, ensuring their expertise is considered when maritime regulations are being shaped. Additionally, I focus on aligning our work at the IMO with EU policies to create a unified approach that supports both the maritime industry and our broader goals.
What is CIMAC doing with respect to the IMO?
Since being granted consultative status with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in July 2024, CIMAC has been working to align its internal structure and processes to actively contribute to IMO committees and bodies. Our engagement spans key committees vital to our members, including SDC, SSE, FAL, MEPC, and MSC. As representatives of a global community with deep maritime expertise, we are focused on transforming this knowledge into tangible contributions that shape the future of the industry.
Through our role as an observer NGO, CIMAC aims to offer meaningful input by providing formal submissions and collaborating with other NGOs, international organizations, and flag states. We strive to ensure our contributions effectively support the broader goals of the maritime sector and help drive the development of policies and regulations that reflect our industry's technical expertise and innovations.
What role do alliances play in the strategy?
We are actively building alliances and engaging with key stakeholders within the IMO to strengthen our network and maximize our impact in representing our members' interests. Our focus is on fostering constructive dialogue with other NGOs to support each other’s initiatives wherever possible. The IMO is a vast sea of knowledge, and our goal is to navigate it through collaboration rather than competition. Alliances are the driving force that propels our shared vision forward. We remain open to collaboration and partnerships that drive progress within the maritime industry.
