In July 2024, CIMAC was officially granted consultative status with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). At the 11th session of the IMO’s Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE) that took place from 24 to 28 February 2025, CIMAC gave its first statement as an official consultative body.

CIMAC commented on the topic of "Single Electric Propulsion Motors," emphasizing the need for predictable, long-term, and technology-neutral regulations to support the green transition. It was highlighted that once a regulatory decision is made, it should remain unless new evidence justifies a change. CIMAC expressed the concern that proposals to include cargo ships within the scope of "Single Electric Propulsion Motors" create regulatory uncertainty. CIMAC is committed to advocating for stable, predictable regulations that support industry growth and innovation.
